Every spring, the Sri Sri Radha Krishna temple in Spanish Fork, and probably most Hindu temples around the world, holds the Holika festival of colors. I went to said festival with a date, some friends, a sister, and a sister's friend. The festival begins with performers singing and dancing and such, then they set fire to the effigy of a woman, seen here.
Now, I know this sound creepy and demonic, but she's evil, so it's okay. You can read her story here if you'd like. So when this fire is lit, several thousand people about my age begin throwing handfulls brightly colored chalk-like substance into eachothers faces. Within seconds, the entire crowd is enveloped in an enormous cloud of multi-colored fun.
...and when the dust settles, the true extent of the damage becomes apparent.

Way cute date! Looks like a lot of fun!
Doesn't it hurt your eyes?
It does look like fun. Do they like to have visitors around at that time?
How do so many people come up with such stupid -- but fun -- ideas? Spencer, the best part of the whole thing is the date. She's cute!
Hope you can all breathe OK today.
Yeah, it kind of hurts your eyes, but not as much as you'd think. Breathing it isn't much fun either, but you ignore all that and it's a blast!
wow that is SO neat! Thanks for taking lots of pictures- especially of the cloud.
